Jyoti Sharma's collection for the label Bhanuni was primarily made up of cocktail dresses, but there were a few more formal pieces and a couple of interesting silhouettes I thought were worth covering. Once again this season's velvet theme holds strong in the simple cut cholis featured in the only two lehengas that were part of this collection. The rest of the pieces were bubble dresses cut to a length suitable for a cocktail reception.
I'm starting with Joy Mitra's collection, since he's a newbie to my blog and this is the first time I'll be reviewing any of his work. It certainly seems that he is a regular at the show, and his past collections have met with quite a bit of accolade. I am hoping that this translates into commercial success with celebrity buyers and boutique clients, because his work looks incredibly wearable.
I have been shopping around or my own clothes lately and I'm getting really tired of overdone pieces with details that seem to be randomly thrown on to make an outfit that is as blingy as possible without any attention to components like fit and style or even color, at times. So that probably explains my attraction to the fresh, high-contrast colour scheme and the sparsely embroidered pieces. Some of the tops seems to be a bit badly cut and so appear ill-fitting.
I like the balance between heavy and light fabrics and the wide, flowy skirts. I could do without the tulle sticking out from the bottom of the skirts though, which in more ornate pieces can be a charming little touch of whimsy, but here, on simpler cuts, looks like the dress is just a tad bit too short. The gold lace detailing on a lot of the pieces is totally nineties throwback, and is a great retro detail.
I'll be starting my reviews of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (what a mouthful) this week, and I think some of you may have noticed that I don't do the daily live updates from the shows anymore. There are, two reasons for this. One is that I am very busy these days, and so I'm trying to fit blogging into a tighter schedule than before. Another is that I've begun to like the chance to look at the collection and let it mull for a bit before I post it, because when I first see the clothes, this is me.
Hello lovelies, and yes, I did take an extra day after the long weekend Thanksgiving Day to recuperate from the hecticness of last week, so I am a bit behind on my posting. And now I have blogger's guilt, which essentially translates into some weird complex about the fact that I haven't posted pictures of a fashion show that everyone has seen posted on at least a dozen other sites. However, I do have a number of posts lined up, and will get them started soon. In the meanwhile, I am relaxed, because my weekend was filled with scenes that mostly looked like this.
In the right hands, a painted cake is a work of art that allows you to be extremely flexible in terms of what you can incorporate from you wedding theme.
I missed this last week, but I am sharing this anyway. I mean, come on you guys, a chantilly lace saree! (Rubies and Ribbon) Also, am seriously considering buying this ring.
